Jessica Newsome is the Director of Training Services at Jane Addams Resource Corporation (JARC) and oversees the site in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago. While an undergraduate at Lawrence University in Wisconsin, Jessica studied psychology and worked as direct service staff at a domestic violence shelter. Jessica moved to Chicago in 2011, when she started volunteering in the child welfare system, as a doula, and with another domestic violence program. She started working with JARC as an AmeriCorps member shortly after moving to Chicago, and finished her master’s degree in social work at University of Chicago in the spring of 2013. Jessica has continued to devote specific attention to women in her nonprofit work through the Women in Manufacturing program and through a two-generation project with JARC, funded by the W.K.Kellogg Foundation.
