Biography

Edward L. Abeyta, Ph.D. is Associate Dean for Education and Community Outreach and Career Preparations Programs at UC San Diego Extension. Dr. Abeyta has a B.A. from the University of New Mexico, an M.A. from the University of San Diego and his Ph.D. in Post-Secondary Adult Education from Capella University. Edward has been recognized by UC San Diego and the UC Office of the President for his involvement in staff diversity and development initiatives. Edward was selected as the Staff Advisor to The Regents (2008-2010) where he served on the UC Diversity Commission, Post-retirement Task Force, and The Regents UC Commission on the Future. Most recently he was appointed to the UC Scout Advisory Board that develops and delivers UC A-G approved online classes and curriculum to students in California and around the globe.

Dr. Abeyta is a founding trustee of the Urban Discovery Academy K-8 and ID8 high school. He is also president of the Urban Discovery Schools Foundation and recently completed his service as a member of the San Diego Youth Symphony board of directors.  He is the founder of the UCTV STEaM Channel and was the key architect in moving Sally Ride Science to UC San Diego.
