Biography

Gerald Solomon recently retired from serving as the Executive Director of the Samueli Foundation, a role he began in 2008.  Gerald oversaw the family’s global philanthropic activities. The Foundation was formed when Henry Samueli took Broadcom public, and under Gerald’s leadership, the Foundation provided grants in excess of $510 Mil.

The Foundation’s focus was on STEM Education, Youth Development, Integrative Health, and Jewish Leadership. Mr. Solomon demonstrated an acute ability to be innovative and collaborative, building national and global networks impacting 100s of thousands of children and young adults.  Concurrently, Mr. Solomon designed and implemented a systems approach to transforming the delivery of health and wellness to residents of Orange County California through a partnership he created with the University of California, Irvine and the Orange County Community Clinics Association, through a platform known as LiveHealthyOC   (https://www.facebook.com/LiveHealthyOC/)

His current initiative is connecting “play and passion with purpose”…integrating esports and gaming with a scholastic platform approved by State of California, especially focused on underserved and disenfranchised youth, through a program called the North America Scholastic Esports Federation (NASEF). In 18 short months, NASEF is now in 46 states and three countries with nearly 10,000 students connecting esports play with learning and workforce skill development.  (www.nasef.org)

Mr. Solomon also serves on the boards of the Consortium of Florida Ed Foundations, the Calif Dept of Ed Foundation, the Schools of Engineering at UCLA and UCI, the Teacher Advisory Council at the National Research Council within the National Academies, and Southern California Grantmakers Assoc. and is currently Chair of the UCI Esports Advisory Board, and the Chair of OC STEM to name a few.
